Bowls: Ayrshire impresses again ANNE DUNWOODIE May 24 2004 Three teams retain pole position in their respective sections after the third round of matches in the Cities & Counties championship for the Andrew Hamilton Trophy. Angus are on top in the North, Edinburgh & Leith in the east and Stirling County West in the west. But it was Ayrshire who impressed again, wrapping up their second 22-0 whitewash in three outings. This time Argyle and Bute were on the receiving end at Largs Hawkshill. The win puts them into second, only three points adrift of Stirling County West, who saw off Glasgow in their table-topping decider at Doune Castle. Edinburgh & Leith opened up a 17-point lead at the top of the east ahead of the defending champions East Lothian, racking up a second successive 20-2 scoreline. Borders were the victims this time. East Lothian got their title dreams back on track after last week's defeat to beat Stirling East. Angus and Highland are locked together at the top of the north, with both teams sharing 45 points. Angus hold the shots advantage, finishing 17-5 (113-106) against Perthshire and Highland walk in their shadow after an 18-4 (142-110) win over Bon Accord. Glasgow City upset tabletoppers Lanarkshire South to open the door for Dumfriesshire to take control of the section by 11 points and push the Lanarkshire outfit to second spot. BOWLS: UPDATE Jun 1 2004 Scotland's top international Julie Forrest was a surprise omission from the 24-player team for the Home International Series in Jersey later this month. Forrest, from Hawick, who recently won the WIBC World Indoor Singles title, said: 'Although I know what I'm capable of, I've just got to accept that I wasn't good enough on the day.'
